Ran heroics with him. Held threat as a bear tank and seemed to know his stuff. He seemed eager to start raiding and being in a good guild... Just wanted to share my experience w/ him as a tank.

after a discussion with him before raid monday night he seemed like a quality recruit. He expressed an eagerness to learn, and willingness to accept suggestions. In fact, he's already made several of the changes I suggested. Although his gear is a bit behind, I don't think it will be a problem if he's recruited as an offtank. Besides, gear is only to help a player perform it doesn't do the job for them. As for the resto offspec, I can't really say much, my knowledge is limited. I haven't played resto in a really long time. I'd say give him a shot, whether as bear or restoration, he has the attitude we're looking for, and need out of recruits.
you can ignore this, I told him I would post my tanking macros for him to be able to copy easier in game.
- Code: Select all
-this macro shifts you out and back into the respective form, it's instant so no need to worry about being hit while in caster if you do this as a bear. Very useful for a fight with any sort of movement impairing effect.
#showtooltip
/cast [stance:1] !Dire Bear Form; [stance:4] !Travel form; [stance:3] !Cat Form; [stance:5]
-this macro allows you to apply lacerate to a target other than your current just by mousing over the target and hitting the hotkey. Very useful for tanking multiple mobs. If you do not have a mouseover target, this applies lacerate to your current target, and also triggers Maul to be used on your next attack if it's not already triggered.
#showtooltip Lacerate
/cast [target=mouseover,exists,harm,nodead] Lacerate; Lacerate
/cast !Maul
-These next two all do the same thing as above, cast the indicated ability on your current target, and trigger Maul to be used on your next auto attack if it's not already triggered.
#showtooltip
/cast Mangle (Bear)(Rank 5)
/cast !Maul
#showtooltip
/cast Swipe (Bear)(Rank 8)
/cast !Maul

Thanks a lot for the macros, Whole. They look to be very helpful and I'll be implenting/trying them out as soon as I get home tonight. The maul macro alone looks like it might save me from early onset carpal tunnel.
Also gonna go ahead and take my secondary spec to a cat dps spec and try to get some practice on that.
